The purpose of this position is to be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Right of Way maintenance equipment; light and heavy vehicles on assigned projects or activities of a public works nature.
The position requires manual labor work, which will be completed alone or as part of a crew.

, mowing, edging, pruning, crack seal, etc.
Work includes planning on-site work, maintenance, cleaning and service equipment, emergency needs, vehicles, tools, and work area.
Inspects vehicles for required supplies, materials, and equipment.
Observe and follow safety procedures and precautions at work sites.
Work will be reviewed while in progress and upon completion through observations, reports, and results obtained, delivery of services, motivation, coaching, and mentoring.
Report to work during all significant weather events or random incidents.
-Direct Supervisor: Crew Leader and Foreman EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Right of-way maintenance duties, such as mowing, weed control, spring clean-up, fall clean-up, trimming, pruning, and cutting vegetation and small trees.
Requires proper pruning techniques while using chainsaws, pole saws, pole pruners, and loppers.
Requires operation of light trucks, backhoes, off-road vehicles, industrial mowers, skid steers, woodchippers, front-end loaders, tractors, brush trucks, stump grinders, loaders, and booms.
Requires operation of hand tools, chain saws, sharpening tools, and power tools.
Maintains a safe work area, including; placing and removing cones, barricades, warning devices, and/or directing traffic at work sites to ensure the safety of work crew and public; cleans up work sites upon completion of job; picks up all tools and equipment; secures the job site if returning later; washes vehicles and equipment as needed; cleans up shop areas; maintains tools and equipment in safe and operable conditions; safe use, mix, and dilute all chemicals according to direction labels; and when operating motor vehicles, observe safe driving principles and practices.
Identifies hazards to determine if the job can be performed safely; conducts required safety checks.
Assists in investigating work requests and makes recommendations regarding the type of work to be performed.
Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as directed.
Performs other duties and functions as assigned, required, or directed, or which are necessary, readily apparent, or related to other duties and responsibilities.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of how to safely operate, but not limited to gas-powered saws, 1- or 2-ton trucks, off-road vehicles, industrial mowers, skid steers, chain saws, or woodchippers.
Safely and correctly apply road construction and maintenance techniques.
Safely operate light and heavy road maintenance and construction vehicles and equipment.
Ability to adhere to the personal protective equipment (PPE) policy and maintain individually provided PPE in a functional condition.
All uniforms and PPE should be clean and equipped when scheduled to work.
Attend shifts in accordance with company policy.
This position is subject to responding to emergencies after normal working hours.
Occasional overtime required.
Ability to be flexible with last-minute schedule changes, location changes, and time of shift changes.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees and officials, representatives of outside agencies, and the general public.
Both verbal and written communication, including conveying and following instructions and providing information to the public.
Understand and follow instructions and communicate effectively, as required.
Knowledge and adherence to all applicable State and Federal laws; local ordinances; City and Departmental policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
Knowledge and adherence to the Texas Motor Vehicle Code and other codes, laws, and statutes relating to the given position.
Hands-on experience with Microsoft Suite, Database management, and web applications.
Must have a strong work ethic and able to manage time to effectively meet deadlines.
Endeavors to continuously improve the services provided to the citizens of Tyler.
Physical characteristics: The job requires to be able to twist and kneel for up to 6 hours daily: bend, turn, climb, crouch, and crawl up to 2 hours daily; stoop for up to 3 hours daily; walk, sit, and stand up to 4 hours daily; grasp objects up to 8 hours daily, lift and carry up to 80-lbs.
