Job Summary Provides leadership and conducts on-the-job training for seafood partners; prepares, displays, sells, and merchandises seafood and related products; and ensures display cases are fully stocked and proper temperatures are maintained in accordance with Brookshire Grocery Company standards and all regulatory food safety practices.
Promotes customer service and sales building practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assists Market Manager with responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, training and developing partners; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining partners; and scheduling, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
Reviews historical data to predict future sales from ads and promotions.
Manages inventory using item management processes to ensure satisfactory in-stock levels.
Reviews profit and loss, sales, shrink, and labor data; provides verbal or written summary to upper management regarding any related issues.
Responsible for maintaining and improving sales performance, financial results, public relations, product quality, and work standards.
Checks inventory on trucks, unloads products, and ensures accuracy of inventory, product ordering, and associated paperwork.
Processes seafood by filleting, trimming, stuffing and/or cutting to proper thickness and size.
Handles knives and power equipment to cut, weigh, package, and label product.
Enforces quality control and food safety standards by ensuring products are stocked and rotated properly, packaging and pricing products, and placing them on trays for display.
Makes fine judgements about aroma, texture, and color to inspect prepared foods for freshness.
Adheres to all governmental product origin labeling.
Conducts on-the-job training, instructing in use of tools and equipment, and demonstrating procedures.
Cleans, assembles, and prepares equipment for operation, and examines to check working order.
Operates machinery, regulates speed, and stops machinery at precise points indicated.
Promotes product sales through use of suggestive selling initiatives.
Provides friendly and customer service-oriented attitude by greeting customers, answering questions, and responding to customer complaints.
Maintains clean, safe and sanitary working and shopping environment by adhering to Company safety procedures.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to read calibrated scales.
Ability to use an alphanumeric keyboard.
Ability to safely operate and maintain department equipment.
Ability to safely work with sharp objects such as knives, box cutters, etc.
Ability to use precision and non-precision hand tools.
Ability to lead and motivate others.
Ability to effectively communicate (in written and verbal form) with customers and partners.
Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends and holidays.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications Minimum of 18 years of age required.
Partners must be 21 years of age or older to drive for Company business in accordance with the BGC Business Driver Policy.
High school Diploma or GED required and two or more years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and/or higher education required.
Prerequisite experience as a meatcutter, apprentice, and/or manager trainee preferred.
Food Handler certification required.
Manager Food Safety certification required.
Typically involves on-the-job training.
Physical Demands Continuously required to use close vision, distance vision, depth perception or the ability to focus.
Continuously required to stand or walk.
Continuously required to use hands for reaching, touching or handling.
Frequently required to push, pull, maneuver or lift objects up to 40 lbs.
Frequently required to talk and hear.
Frequently required to bend, kneel or squat.
Occasionally required to push, pull, maneuver or lift objects up to 75 lbs.
Attendance at work is required.
Work Context and Environment Work is generally performed in a retail store.
Frequently exposed to equipment with sharp blades or edges.
Frequently exposed to extreme cold conditions (non-weather).
Frequently exposed to wet, slippery or damp conditions.
Frequently exposed to cleaning agents.
