Chinese or Japanese Porcelain Hair Receiver - NEW Condition.
Very beautiful, 24 kt GOLD Paint, hand painted.
Green hallmark is blurry and cannot tell if China or Japan and probably from the 1800's or early 1900's.
You could use it as a humidor by placing a moist sponge in the hole to keep tobacco from drying out (pipe smokers).
A hair receiver is a small pot, typically made of ceramic, bronze, or crystal, with a hole in the lid, kept on the dressing table in the Victorian era to store hair removed from brushes and combs.
A hair receiver is a small container, typically made of porcelain or glass that was used in the 19th century to collect loose hair that was combed or brushed from a person’s head.
The collected hair would then be used to make items such as wigs, dolls’ hair, or even FISHING LURES (imagine that).
See Photos.
Makes a terrific "white elephant" Christmas gift for your mother-in-law.
Ha Ha.
