Training is held in person in training centers located in either Austin, Dallas, or Houston.
Teleworking may be considered after the initial six months of training when certain working conditions are met per Audit Division’s policies.
Travel reimbursements are not provided for teleworking but will be provided when traveling to work at taxpayer's location or to out-of-town training centers.
The Audit Division employs Tax Auditors nationwide with offices in New York City, the windy city of Chicago, Tulsa Oklahoma, Los Angeles, and multiple locations within Texas such as Austin, Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, El Paso, McAllen, etc.
Tax Compliance is the Audit Division’s primary focus.

Candidates who meet the minimum requirements and have experience in full-time tax auditing with private, state, or other local government agencies may also apply.
Salary and the entry level position will be commensurate on experience on a case-by-case basis.

43 Tax Auditor I – $5,101.

43 (Texas Locations: Corpus, Dallas, El Paso, Fort Worth, Houston, Katy, Lubbock, Plano, San Antonio, Tyler ) Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Tax Auditor I: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s or master's degree in Accounting; a bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance with 12 hours in accounting; or any degree with a total of 24 semester hours of accounting.
Tax Auditor II: One (1) year as a Tax Auditor II with the Comptroller of Public Accounts.
The Applicant left the agency in good standing within the past three years.
Tax Auditor III: One (1) year as a Tax Auditor III with Comptroller of Public Accounts.
Applicant left the agency in good standing within the past three years Note: Experience as a full-time Tax Auditor with private, state, or other local government agencies may be considered for higher entry level positions on a case-by-case basis as long as they meet the minimum requirements for a Tax Auditor I.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: Valid Drivers License In this role you will: Evaluate accounting records for accuracy and legal conformance Compose clear and concise audit reports Learn and use automated audit techniques Important Notes to the Candidate: Salary is contingent upon qualifications.
CPA employees in the same job classification, if selected, will be laterally transferred with no increase in salary.
(An example might be an Accounts Examiner III in Revenue Administration who moves to an Accounts Examiner III in the Enforcement division).
